The Origins of Cosmic Kidz ::.
Cosmic Kidz Event Productions is independently owned and operated by managing partners Charles Johnston and Sandra Mollan.
Charles Johnston's journey started in 1979 when as a young man he discovered disco music played on Tecnic turntables and an amplified sound system. He was hooked. Then as high school class vice president he found himself deeply involved in the production of prom and school dances. Going off to New Mexico State University Charles joined a fraternity which allowed him to be involved in participating in monthly parties and socials as well as helping coordinate NMSU's largest annual event called REGATA. Charles was also the marketing intern for the AMERICAN SOUTHWEST THEATRE COMPANY for 3 years where he did audience development, box office management, aritst contracts, theater event programs and advertising (print, radio, TV). While working at ASTC he was involved in numerous successful fund raising events for this semi-professional theater. Charles graduated with a bachelor of arts in Public Relations and Theater Management.
In 1990 while attending the film program at The College Of Santa Fe, Charles started attending warehouse parties featuring DJ's and numerous clubs in the northern New Mexico area featuring "house" music. He began attending all night dance events in Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Denver and Los Angeles. These event offered rare groove music not to be found in stores or radio. And the rich diversity of intelligent people who attended these parties offered a glimpse into the world of fine art, consciousness studies, music history, music theory, travel, fashion and dance.
Sandra Mollan Bio out soon!
In 1997 Charles and Sandra found a outdoor location and set up some speakers, turntables and invited some friends and Cosmic Kidz was born. Then shortly after these two events, they were contacted by aspiring sound engineer Sean Trujillo. Sean worked for Santa Fe Audio Visual and knew that a multi-cultural dance center called HARAMBE wanted to do some fundraising events and so he asked them and they threw their first all night dance party. Harambe allowed Cosmic Kidz to establish their vision and business. And from 1997 - 1999 Cosmic Kidz hosted events that are now etched in Santa Fe history! With an audience from all over the southwest these events are what inspired them to travel the country and the globe connecting to other event production companies, music producers, DJ's and dancers. Cosmic Kidz are proud to represent the global electronic music scene where ever they travel but are especially proud to represent it in the countries oldest capital Santa Fe, New Mexico !
